ROCKTALK GIG GUIDE

-

Happy New Year to everyone from the Rocktalk gig guide team.

As usual for this time of year, things are a bit quieter after the festive period but there’s still a fair bit of live action for all you gig-goers out there.

Number 57 kicks off its 2018 action tonight with the Acoustic Sessions from 9pm.

Tomorrow at 5.30pm it’s the Teatime Teaser Session with 70s band Tivvy taking to the stage and later followed by The Junkyard Dogs.

The Live Super Sunday Club also features The Junkyard Dogs from 7pm.

After a flurry of weekday gigs over the festive period, Clark’s On Lindsay Street gets back to normal weekend action tonight when The Hemingways come calling.

They’re followed tomorrow night by the Mess Arounds.

Both gigs start around 9.30pm and it’s free entry before 11pm.

Tonight at Mcdaniels, Cherry Bombz are Unplugged from 9pm.

Tomorrow night it’s the same band but with the full electric line-up, from 9.30pm.

The band’s third gig of the weekend on Sunday at 6.30pm sees Cherry Bombz doing the Unplugged thing at Harlequins Bar.

The free live music this week at the Bank Bar plays host to Headroom tonight and Run For Cover there tomorrow, both from 9.30pm.

On Sunday it’s Songwriters Sunday with Gav Mcginty and Martin Tino Allan from 8.30pm.

Wednesday’s Open Mic Night is as usual with Dave Webster from 8.30pm and that’s free entry, with all musicians welcome to come along and join in.

The Reading Rooms takes a break this weekend but there’s plenty to come over the next few weeks.

SLAM aka Stuart Mcmillian and Orde Meikle return to the small town club on Friday February 2 for another night of forward thinking techno.

Protagonists since the early days and always in the vanguard, SLAM instigated Glasgow’s underground house music scene in the late 1980s and were instrumental in the explosion on the UK techno scene.

Their quarter of a century of exploits has seen them travel far and wide, leaving scorch marks on dance floors everywhere while taking their uncompromising vision of techno around the world.

Tickets are on sale now from residentadvisor.net for £10.

SLAM nights always sell out so get your tickets early to avoid disappointment.

Tickets are also available for Headway on Friday March 2 with special guest DVS1, a DJ that the Headway team has been trying to bring to Dundee for many years.

Immersed in the heydays of the 90s Midwest rave scene, DVS1 has gained a highly respected reputation for his versatile skills, infectious energy and physical power behind the decks.

As a resident DJ of Berlin’s infamous Berghain/ Panorama Bar, he moves floors of the world’s most prestigious and best venues, pushing his own boundaries and sensitively reacting to the people’s energy.

Support comes from Headway residents Andy Barton, Graeme Binnie and Neil Clark and tickets are £15 from residentadvisor. net

Deacon Brodies in Ward Road on Saturday has Matthew Reilly from 6-8pm, followed at 9pm until 12 midnight by Wolftrain.

Both free entry.
