Tapping’s return could provide the vital spark: Dods
Former Glebe Park favourite tipped to freshen up City’s battle to beat drop
The arrival of players who haven’t suffered the pain of being winless in the first half of the league season could be the “spark” Brechin City need, according to manager Darren Dods.
Callum Tapping has signed from Queen of the South and “two or three others” could follow.
Dods, whose side entertain Morton today, said: “The boys are always able to brush aside a disappointing result when they come into training on a Tuesday or Thursday. They’ve got a great attitude of ‘let’s go again’.
“If anything, the only time that heads might go down is if we go behind in a game. Bringing Callum in and hopefully two or three others will freshen things up.
“He hasn’t been involved in this run of games without a win and might give us a wee spark that we need.
“He’s coming from full-time football and has made 14 starts for Queen of the South and has come off the bench six times. So he comes here ready to play. He did well at Brechin last time and hopefully it will be the same again.”
Ryan Mcgeever will have a scan this weekend which will determine whether he is out for another few weeks or the rest of the season should a fracture be revealed.
Back to back home games against midtable sides represent a good chance for Brechin to get that first Championship win.
Dods said: “We’ve been really competitive at home and were unlucky to be beaten by Inverness last weekend.
“If we play at that level again we’ll have a good chance against Morton.”
Ton manager Jim Duffy, who bossed Brechin from 2008 until 2010, has told his players they will need to match the performance they put in against highflying St Mirren when they face the Glebe Park men.
The Greenock side drew 1-1 with the Saints on Tuesday and Duffy said: “It was a good enough game against St Mirren.
“In the first half they were the better side but in the second we were better. We could have won which is good going against the league leaders and we need to play that well to win this game.
“It has been difficult for Brechin in this league and losing to Dundee United the other day would have been another sore day out. They are not a bad team despite results.”
