Fife have defensive platform to build on

East Fife manager Darren Young is hoping that his side’s defensive display against Airdrie last weekend will give the Bayview men the confidence they need to defeat visitors Alloa today.

The Fifers came home with a point after a goalless draw in Lanarkshire.

Young said: “It was a good draw after a disappointing run. We did not play that well going forward but everyone worked really hard to get a clean sheet and that was really pleasing as we had been losing some soft goals.

“Hopefully we know have a defensive platform that we can build on and be a more dangerous side in attack.

“We will be tested against Alloa but we are confident that we can stand up to that test.”

Young has been frustrated in his attempts to get additional firepower on board.

He explained: “I have been keen to add a couple of strikers but nothing is over the line as yet. I thought that we had deals all agreed but they have stalled and it is very disappointing.

“I will keep on looking and working on getting goals into the team.”

A near two-month winless run has seen East Fife drop six points behind the play-off chase.

Young is confident that can be turned around.

He said: “One win and we are right back in the promotion chase.

“Alloa are on a good run but if we defend like we did last weekend then we will give ourselves a good chance of getting the three points.”

Ben Reilly has dropped out of Young’s plans and is set to complete a move to Cowdenbeath, with Craig Watson the only injury absentee.
