MJV Dundee Wanderers, Edinburgh University and Grove Menzieshill head into tomorrow’s final pool games at Forthbank in the knowledge they will line up in contention for the coveted European play-off finals, writes our women’s hockey correspondent.

Clydesdale Western are set to join them after their morning outing against a young Kelburne side destined to make a swift return to Division 2.

Pool A winners Wanderers kick-off proceedings against a Hillhead outfit determined to improve on their prechristmas defeat.

The champions then have a long wait until first and second in pool B is resolved to find out who will form the penultimate hurdle to their aspirations of title number eight.

Edinburgh University hold a single-point advantage over Grove Menzieshill, but the Taysiders will take confidence from their earlier victory over Cala while the students were forced to settle for a feisty draw against Wildcats first time round.

Hillhead will consider themselves just off the pace. However, with Kelburne destined for the drop they must battle it out with Wildcats and Cala to avoid a possible relegation playoff against one of Grange, Inverleith and Watsonians, who are vying for promotion from division 2.

At Dundee University, Perthshire are well placed in the Division 3 race.

Two more wins over Granite City Wanderers and Uddingston would enhance their status as title contenders.
