Angus Alive announces shortlist for sporting accolades

Angus Alive, the culture, sport and leisure trust for the county, has revealed the final list of nominees for its 2017 Sports Awards.

An independen­t panel met this week and the nominees are as follows:

Club volunteer of the year: Jonathan Christie, Claire Murray and Julie Thomson.

Coach of the year: Scott Haxton, Stephen Plomer and Kay Rudd.

Outstandin­g commitment award: Bob Baldie, Richard Heggie and Pam Thomson.

Sports personalit­y of the year: Mark Hopkins, Gemma Lumsdaine and Andrew Woodroffe.

Sports personalit­y of the year for people with a disability: Liam Davies, Bill Fairweathe­r and Paul Radunski.

School sports volunteer of the year: Kerry Craig, Stewart Ferguson and Suzanne Reid.

Young sports personalit­y of the year: Niamh Harper, Zoe Rennie and Sophie Smith.

Club of the year: Arbroath Gymnastics Club, Brechin Beavers Swimming Club and Monifieth Athletic Football Club.

Team of the year: Arbroath Gymnastics Club Elite Display Team, Forfar Boys FC 2004s and Forfar Farmington Women’s Premier League Team.

Due to the high standard of nomination­s for young people received in the categories young sports personalit­y of the year and for people with a disability award, Angus Alive will also commend Oliver Bernard, Matthew Crighton, Laura Findlay, Neve Guthrie, Ben Hudson, Oran Mccafferty, Rosie Kinloch Simpson, Darryl Sinclair, Jude Steven, Mia White and James Wilson.

The awards will be presented at a ceremony in the Reid Hall, Forfar, on Friday March 16.
