Scottish Cup draw throws up cracking ties for Dundee teams.

SCOTTISH CUP: Replay at Inverness a positive for Dundee boss

- NEIL ROBERTSON

Dundee boss Neil Mccann admitted the only positive he could take from Saturday’s draw against Inverness was that his side were still in the William Hill Scottish Cup.

The Dark Blues face a replay in the Highlands a week on Tuesday after the game with John Robertson’s Championship outfit at Dens finished 2-2.

Dundee struggled to shake off the effects of their midwinter break against a side that has been playing league games throughout this month with Mccann just relieved to have another chance to progress with a tie against Motherwell awaiting the winners in the fifth round following yesterday afternoon’s draw.

The manager said: “We didn’t deserve to lose the game but we also didn’t deserve to win it. I think you could see how rusty we were.”

“It is very hard to replicate a competitive edge when you are just having a bounce game between yourselves,” said Mccann.

“We got ourselves going in the second half and once we got our noses in front we should have seen the game out but you could see we looked sluggish and we are not happy with that.

“The only positive I can take is that we are still in the Scottish Cup. So we have to go and take care of business in Inverness.”

The big news before kick-off was the absence from the Dundee squad of transfer target Jack Hendry but Mccann explained why the centrehalf had missed out.

He said: “Jack has the flu. We’ve had a couple of boys actually with the cold – it’s rife at the minute as you know.

“I’m hoping he will be back in on Monday and ready to go for Hibs on Wednesday.”

Former Dark Blues defender Tom Hateley has returned to Polish football with Piast Gliwice.

The 28-year-old, previously on the books of Slask Wroclaw, has penned an 18-month contract with the Ekstraklasa strugglers.

Hateley was released by Dundee in August.
