An errant cat which spent almost a week stuck up a 100ft tree has been “grounded” by his owner after being rescued.

The feline, called Max, scaled the tree near his home in Scone five days ago and was unable to get back down.

His frantic owner, Cassandra O’connor, tried to tempt him down to no avail.

Earlier rescue attempts, including one by the fire service, only pushed the three-year-old animal further up the branches.

Yesterday, a local tree surgeon was able to lasso Max and lower him to safety.

Cassandra, who has raised Max since he was born, said her five-year-old son Ben was upset by the cat’s plight.

She said: “My son was distraught. If I had to invent a jet-pack to get Max back for him, I would have!

“He’s always been a climber – when he was a kitten he was always climbing clothes horses and cupboards.

“He always been one for heights but this is the highest he’s gone.

“The tree was covered in ivy, so he could climb up but coming down was just an impossibility.

“He wouldn’t go in a bag so they had to use a noose and lower him down.

“I am overjoyed to have him back. He’s been checked over and he’s absolutely fine, albeit hungry. “He’s grounded for just now!” Norrie Sloan, who runs Norrie Sloan Tree Services, said his 25-year-old nephew Danny had taken up the gauntlet to make the nail-biting climb.

He said: “He had to go up one tree and across into the other – it was quite a bit of tricky climbing

“It was really hard for him to catch it. “We actually though the cat was going to jump out of the tree – it was a good 70ft up at that time.

“It was already scared because another tree surgeon and the fire service had already attempted to rescue it.

“The cat was having a bit of a panic attack so he had to basically lasso it.

“The owner of the cat was highly delighted – which was nice to see.”
