Dods hopes to have midfielder available

-

Darren Dods is hoping to have Hearts midfielder Callumn Morrison in his squad for today’s trip to face Queen of the South, writes Eric Nicolson.

Brechin have agreed a loan deal through to the end of the season but it will be “touch and go” whether the paperwork is completed, according to Dods.

He said: “There’s a chance he could be involved.

“Callumn was on loan at Stirling and got something like 10 goals in 19 games. Hopefully he won’t be the last player we bring in.”

Ryan Mcgeever has had his ankle operation, which will keep him out for the season but he has already signed a new deal for next term.

Dods said: “Ryan’s had no luck but he should be back running by the end of the season and then we can get him back in with the team in pre-season.”

Brechin lost, as expected, at Celtic Park in the Scottish Cup but the performance and the words of Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers have given them a boost ahead of today’s league game.

Dods said: “We got off to the worst possible start when we conceded without touching the ball and then when they went 2-0 up after 10 minutes you feared the worst. But we created a few chances after that and it would have been great to give our fans a goal.

“Brendan Rodgers was a class act. We spoke in his office for a good 20 minutes after the game and he was full of encouragement about the fine margins that can turn things around.

“They had watched us two or three times before the game and he was telling us to ‘keep going’.

“The players have all been in good spirits in training this week. We lost heavily at Palmerston at the start of the season but we’re a better team now.”
