Muir tops bill at Emirates

-

Laura Muir, will be the star attraction at tomorrow’s FPSG Scottish Senior Indoor Championships and Under 17 Championships at the Emirates Arena, Glasgow.

Entered for the both the 800m and 1500m, the double European indoor champion is expected to concentrate on the shorter distance preparing for a campaign which will culminate at the World Indoor Champs in Birmingham in March.

The Hawkhill Harrier has already claimed the Lindsays Scottish 4km cross country title at Kirkcaldy in November and the Scottish 3000m indoor title at the Emirates early in January so a win this weekend would complete a recent gold medal hat-trick.

Muir will set her sights on the Scottish 800m indoor best of two minutes 04.27 seconds, set by Joanna Ross in 2006.

Training partner Jemma Reekie (Kilbarchan), the European junior champion, is lined up for the 1500m.

The men’s 1500m could feature a clash of two athletes who represented Scotland at the recent 4 x 1km International cross-country telay at Holyrood Park, Jamie Williamson (Springburn) and Sol Sweeney (Perth Strathtay Harriers).

Zoey Clark is competing in Scotland for the first time since winning silver with GB and NI in the 4 x 400m relay at the World Championships. Clark lines up over 200m, also featuring Hawkhill’s Eilidh de Klerk.
