Naval men are fond of their mascots. A ship’s company is much concerned about the loss of their canine pet and they are making great efforts to bring the wanderer home. He is a little Scottish terrier, who answers to the name of “Bob”. He seems to be made of real Scottish fighting stuff and his battle history is enshrined in a badly-torn ear. He seems to have slipped into a train compartment beside three naval men who were coming to Dundee on leave. He leapt off the train and disappeared.

Angus politicians are ready to go to battle over an archaeological “find of a lifetime” which includes a sword and gold decorated spearhead. A dig in Carnoustie found evidence of Bronze Age and Neolithic settlements as well as a haul that included the spearhead, bronze sword and a leather and wood sword sheath. The items are now property of the Crown, and Angus Council will have to bid to have them displayed in the area. The treasures survived in good condition because of the acidic soil.
