High-speed fibre network boost
Homes and businesses in smaller communities across Angus can now get fibre broadband, thanks to the £428 million Digital Scotland Superfast Broadband rollout.
The new network has reached places like Finavon, Inverarity, Backmuir, Piperdam and Tealing for the first time.
High-speed fibre provision has also been expanded in other communities such as Arbroath, Brechin, Carnoustie and Kellas.
Bosses say the programme, one of the largest broadband infrastructure projects in Europe, is reaching more remote and rural areas every week.
Angus Council’s economic development spokesman, Councillor Ron Sturrock, said: “I am delighted that more areas across Angus can now access fibre broadband. We know reliable and fast digital connectivity can be vital to businesses and residents.
“I’d like to encourage businesses and residents to check on the interactive Digital Scotland map and in cases where it is not available that they register their interest.”
He said the spread of superfast broadband was good for the wider region, as well as individual homes and businesses.
“For every £1 spent on this type of infrastructure there is a return of £20 to the economy,” he said.
“Angus Council is continuing work on a number of projects to help improve digital connectivity and our services are working together to maximise infrastructure opportunities.”
