Petrie says Elgin still in title race

-

Montrose manager Stewart Petrie takes his league-leading side up to Elgin well aware the Borough Briggs men cannot be counted out of the title race.

“A lot of people are talking about ourselves and Peterhead being the only sides going for the title. However, I do not see it that way,” he said.

“Our boys have been terrific and have discovered a real knack of turning games that are heading for draws into 1-0 wins, but we are not out of sight.”

“Elgin are 17 points behind us but they have two games in hand so they will see this as a chance to get a win and attack us in their final 12 games of the season.”

Petrie added: “I do not see us going out and looking for the win at Elgin in terms of going for a title, as there is still too long to go. I want us to go out and get the win to consolidate our place in the top four.”

“Elgin have won eight games at home so far in the league and that is the best record in the league. That shows you how tough this game will be.

“They had a good victory over Annan last weekend where they showed a dogged spirit to come from a goal behind.”

“We need to go there and do better than last time – we were turned over 3-0.”

The Gable Endies have Liam Callaghan back after a suspension, but Matty Allan and Iain Campbell have been ruled out and Lewis Milne is struggling.
