Keeping old folk safe from scams

-

Tayside partners joined colleagues from across Scotland to mark the first National Adult Protection Day in Edinburgh.

The event presented an opportunity for a wide range of representatives to discuss good practice, learning and developments, as well as future challenges and innovative responses to ensure the support and protection of adults.

Detective Chief Inspector Graham Binnie of Police Scotland said: “The joint work in Tayside between the three local authorities, the NHS and Police Scotland and our independent and voluntary partners has seen many successes.

“We have seen victims of sexual and physical abuse, as well as older people, being taken advantage of and bullied in their homes being kept safe. We have made great strides in developing partnerships with trading standards, the banking sector, social work, Police Scotland and health services leading to the prevention of scams, which can result in the loss of significant sums of money from vulnerable members of the public.”

Mark Hodgkinson, Adult Protection Officer with Angus Health and Social Care Partnership added: “We all realise there is always more we can all do. To a significant extent we do rely greatly on the public coming forward to alert us with their concerns.”
