Libraries the focus of training day for newly qualified teachers
Angusalive, the culture, sports and leisure trust for Angus, recently participated in a training day for newly qualified teachers to showcase its library and museum resources.
The event, held at The Webster Memorial Theatre, Arbroath, was attended by 26 primary and 22 secondary teachers.
The theme of the day was Literacy across the Curriculum and the event brought together librarians, development officers and consultants to identify ways to promote and spark literacy interest in children.
Delegates were presented with details of literacy projects from across Angus including the First Minister’s Reading Challenge, NHS Storytelling Project, Bookbug and museum collection resources.
Sylvia Main, children and families development officer at Angusalive, said: “Angusalive Libraries were excited to highlight their children’s groups at the newly qualified teachers’ training day in Arbroath.
“We readily support teachers with aids such as reading materials and non-fiction books from our libraries across the county of Angus.”
“During the event, I was able to highlight our successful Early Years Bookbug Programme, stimulating literacy in the youngest members of our communities, while encouraging early library use.”
Lesley Stewart, Angusalive museum officer, said: “We were delighted to be invited to present at the event and took the opportunity to launch The Angusalive Museums Teachers’ Information Guide – our programme which encompasses imaginative, constructive and engaging content for pupils.”
