Firm apologises after van driver soaks school pupil

-

A Fife mum has blasted a van driver who mounted a pavement outside a primary school during heavy flooding and soaked a pupil.

Tracy Buchan, 43, says she was appalled to see the Dingbro van from Dundee being driven so carelessly.

The incident happened on Hepburn Gardens in St Andrews, at around 3.15pm on Tuesday.

Mrs Buchan said: “I was waiting at the bus stop for my son coming home and was horrified to see pedestrians having to rush along the pavement as cars swept a tide of water over them.

“I started to film the dreadful behaviour and a young lad appeared. He was sensibly waiting on the passing cars who were mounting the kerb in front of him and hoping to get the chance to pass safely when the Dingbro van came rushing round the corner.

“It mounted the pavement heading straight for him. The wee lad had no choice but to duck behind the lamp-post for safety. The van soaked him completely from head to toe.”

A spokesman for Dingbro said: “This incident does not fit with our company policy and is being taken very seriously. There is already an investigation under way but we cannot comment further until this is completed.

“Dingbro would like to apologise for the actions of our driver and would like to reassure the people involved this will be fully investigated and appropriate action taken.”
