Cup-winning colt has that Magic Touch

STALLION SHOW: Top award for yearling

The Cawdor Cup at the national stallion show was awarded to Charlotte Young’s Doura Magic Touch, from Hall Farm, Ayr.

The yearling colt, by Glebeview Sir Charles and out of the Carnaff Ambassador-sired mare, Ballinrees Lady Jayne is no stranger to the limelight having dominated the 2017 foal show season.

Taking the reserve Cawdor Cup honours was Collessie Consort, a twoyear-old home-bred colt from Ron and Pete Black of Newton of Collessie, Cupar.

Results: The female championsh­ip and reserve supreme award went to Jim and Linzi Kennedy’s Hillhouse Zara. This seven-year-old mare is by Collessie Cut Above and out of Hill house general elect daughter, hill house millie.

Charlotte Young’s Clerkingto­n Cassandra was reserve female. This three-year-old filly is by Doura Kingmaker and out of Garleton Katie.

In the Highland Pony section Susan Wardrop’seven-year-old mare, Qerina of Carlung, took the championsh­ip. Bowmore Ben Cruachan took the reserve title for John and Jacqueline Bonar of Kirkmuirhi­ll. This sixyear-old gelding is by Moss-side Iain Mhor, out of Bowmore Lady Laura.

Kerloch Rupert took the Shetland Pony championsh­ip for the third year in a row for John Watson of Jedburgh. The 12-year-old black standard stallion by Stow Review is out of Burnbank Veda. Reserve standard was Transy Stud’s Rosekate of Transy, a sevenyear-old mare by Elderberry of Transy, out of Roseseljor­d of Transy. Harry Sleigh of St John’s Wells took the reserve junior with Wells Admiral, a yearling by Wells Real Lucky, out of Kerloch Elixia.

The miniature Shetland championsh­ip went to Katherine and Peter Thompson’s Halstock Jeopardy, a six-year-old stallion by Halstock Reggae, out of Halstock Janie. Reserve miniature was Elspeth Crawford’s Plumtree Jolie, a yearling on its first outing.

Ian and Alistair Smith of Braco, Perthshire, took the Mountain and Moorland championsh­ip with their three-year-old Fell pony filly, Drybarrows Authentic, a three-year-old by the Smith’s own stallion, Carrock I’m Yer Man, and out of Drybarrows Shauna.

Brynithon Royal Welsh Prince stood reserve for Shelby Donnelly of the Barwoods Stud, Kilmarnock.
