Scots women lose indoor title

-

Scotland women’s bid to win the British indoor team title for the third year running has ended in disappointment.

After beating Ireland and Wales they lost by 16 shots to England in Paisley,

England won the title, with Scotland in second ahead of Wales and Ireland.

Pride of place in the Scottish team was the rink featuring East Fife’s Lynn Stein, who swept to three straight wins.

Arbroath’s Caroline Ruxton played third to Blantyre’s Margaret Letham on a rink that won two of their three games, while East Fife’s Cecilia Smith played third to Balbardie’s Lorraine Craig, who also won two out of three. Ruxton’s Arbroath clubmate Leanne Furye, Abbeyview’s Sarah Jane Ewing and East Fife’s Julie Sword were also in the squad.

On a day when Paul Foster got through to the semi-finals of the British Isles men’s indoor singles championship, and, with his Prestwick clubmate Craig Lindsay, the final of the pairs, an Arbroath quartet was involved in the match of the day at Paisley Indoor Bowling Club.

Hilda Martin, Susan Christie, Leanne Furye and Caroline Ruxton held a match lie against a star-studded Welsh four in the semi-final of the women’s fours when skip Hanna Thomas claimed the winning shot.
