Courier Country runners to fore
Courier Country athletes fared well at the Inverness Half Marathon, writes our athletics correspondent.
Dundee Hawkhill Harrier Kristian Jones had to settle for second place behind Robbie Simpson, who will compete for Scotland at next month’s Commonwealth Games and set a course record.
Scottish cross-country champion Jones, a Welsh internationalist, came home in 64.58. His time would have been good enough to win in any other year other than 1993.
Kinross athlete Cameron Milne (Central AC) finished third in 67:21. Kirkcaldy’s Derek Rae (Fife AC) was a few seconds outside his best when recording 70:27 for sixth position.
Glasgow-based Katie White (Garscube Harriers) set a personal best 75:58 to win the women’s race.
Anwen Darlington (Dundee Road Runners) was fifth in 84:39.
Rhona van Rensburg (Fife AC) finished third veteran in 87:08.
Meanwhile, Mary Western (PH Racing) won the over-50s prize in 88:17.
