KIRRIEMUIR: The Probus Club was treated to an illustrate­d talk on Montrose Basin wildlife by lead teaching naturalist Alison O’hara. Alison told members that, while best known for pink footed geese, the basin is also home to eider duck, mute swans, redshank, lapwing, pintail, widgeon and a few otters. David Scrimgeour proposed thanks. The next meeting, on March 21, will be a talk by Jim Miller on Charles Lyell of Kinnordy.

ARBROATH: Arbroath Trefoil Guild is holding a coffee and cake event today in Girlguidin­g HQ, Ogilvy Place, from 2pm to 4pm as a fundraiser for the chosen charity in Trefoil Guild’s 75th year, Riding for the Disabled. KIRRIEMUIR: The World Day of Prayer will be held on Friday in the small hall of the Old Parish Church.

MONTROSE: Journalist and author Forbes Inglis delivered a talk on three soldiers to Montrose Probus Club. Charles Irvine Bowman, Charles Melvin and William Lamb were his subjects. President Archie Howie proposed thanks.

The next meeting will be held on Tuesday next week when Ian Hunter will give a talk on the BBC Television Centre of the 1960s.

MONTROSE: Hillside SWI is holding a coffee morning in Old and St Andrew’s Church Hall on Saturday from 10am until noon.
