Full ponds as Monikie swings into action

The Island and North ponds open for the season today at MONIKIE.

Both ponds are full to the brim after being partially drained down over the winter months and the first stockings of fish have been delivered.

The club has put in a new pricing structure, with some reduced from last year. Full details are available on the club website, www.monikie-anglingclu­b.org.uk.

Membership renewals are still coming in and there is still availabili­ty for new members.

A membership applicatio­n form can be downloaded from the website. Existing members who have mislaid their renewal form can also use this method.

Boat bookings are taken via the bailiff on 01382 370300 between 9-10.30 am or 1-1.30pm.

The “Blobby Boys” came out of cold storage at LOCHTER TROUT FISHERY and Dougie and Billy were into double figures using the buzzer and blob.

Others who made double figures were: Bill Gibb snr and jnr, both using bungee buzzer; Pete Green, who used the bloodworm and black eyed pea; Paul Sharp, who used buzzers; Rhys West and Stuart Crockett, who used a variety of lures; Graham Duthie, Simon Ruddiman and Graham Rhind, who all used the bloodworm.

Steve Prince had nine fish using the buzzer and small nymph. John Smith used the cat’s whisker lure to land seven and Mike Taylor (Aberdeen) had six on a buzzer and cormorant combinatio­n.

This Sunday Lochter will be holding the Troutmaste­r fish-off to determine who will represent the fishery at the final at Draycote Fishery on October 8. For the juniors the final is at Thrunton Fishery on July 21-22.

The next open competitio­n is the spring singles on Sunday April 8 with good prizes to be had and an entry fee of £20, which includes lunch. Contact the bothy on 01651 872787.

The friendly evening boat league at LAKE OF MENTEITH kicks off on May 9 with new entrants welcome.

The lake was stocked on Monday with 1,200 trout averaging 1.9lb.

Despite the water being coloured, fishing at NEWTON FARM has been steady.

Bannockbur­n AC had 20 fish for an impressive 64lb 12oz, including one at 11lb. Mr Hunter managed a nice brace for 14lb, including a big fish at 10lb 2oz.

Season ticket holder Darren Barcik managed 24 fish over Saturday and Sunday.

Club bookings are welcome with plenty dates available.

It was a cold wet day for the start of the fishing season at ORCHILL LOCH, but the Goth FFC started with a great outing on Saturday by catching 44 fish for 138lb 12oz.

The winner was Dean Caulder with four fish for 14lb 2oz with Steven Leyden runner-up with four for 14lb.

Also doing well were: Andy Young (Furnace), who, on two visits, had eight for 24lb on an Ally Mccoist; Colin Clement (Tyndrum), four for 14lb, the best 6lb on the okey dokey.
