Hairdresser drove wrong way up one-way street after drinking

-

A hairdresser who consumed “five, four or three drinks” before jumping into her car to drive to see her boyfriend in Forfar has been banned from driving for a year.

Courtney Chung, 24, of Wellington Street, Dundee, admitted driving while almost three times over the legal limit and driving up a one-way street the wrong way when she appeared at Forfar Sheriff Court yesterday.

The court was told the offence happened on February 18.

Chung was breathalysed and a reading showed she had 70 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, considerably more than the legal limit of 22 mics.

Depute fiscal Bill Kermode said Chung’s car was stopped by police at around 2.30am after she had driven the wrong way along a one-way street.

“She was slurring her speech and said she had driven from Dundee to Forfar to see her boyfriend,” he said.

“She had had five, four or three drinks. She said she was sorry and when asked if she had been drinking, replied she only had a couple of gins.”

Chung’s agent told the court his client was 24, had not been in any trouble before and had a clean driving licence.

He added that she lived with her parents in Dundee, worked as a hairdresser in St Andrews and had been driving for five years.

Sheriff Derek Reekie disqualified Chung for 12 months and ordered her to complete an appropriate drinkdrive rehabilitation course.

If she successfully completes it by October 13 the sentence will be reduced by three months.

He also fined her £600.
