MP slams UK Government over missing Liam Colgan

-

An MP has criticised the UK Government for its response over missing Inverness man Liam Colgan.

Drew Hendry called for Ministers to be sent to the House of Commons to explain why they have failed to respond for three weeks on questions over Mr Colgan’s disappearance.

The Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey MP said: “Three weeks ago today I raised the urgent case of Liam Colgan, the Inverness man who had gone missing in Hamburg.

“Despite taking the Leader of the House’s advice and writing to Ministers, three weeks later I have not had a response, despite having chased and chased, due to ‘clearance and awaiting signature’.

“The family is in trauma. Shouldn’t Ministers come to the House and explain this lack of urgency?”

Leader of the House Andrea Leadsom said she recalled the case and was “sorry to hear that”.

She said she would put pressure on the Foreign and Commonwealth Office for a response.

Mr Colgan, 29, was on his brother Eamonn’s stag weekend in Hamburg when he vanished in the early hours of Saturday, February 10.

Friends and relatives last saw him in the Veermaster Bar after which he was identified on CCTV footage from the Baumwall area and was last seen around 2.30am.

Eamonn postponed his wedding while the search continues and is currently in Hamburg with his fiancee, Susan.
