New ventures on show at Murton Farm and nature reserve open day
Murton Farm and nature reserve near Forfar will be hosting an open day on Friday to showcase two new projects.
The reserve, which includes a visitor farm and tea room, provides an environment for children, young people and adults to learn and develop skills for life.
The first project, the Rucksack Ramble, offers families and groups the opportunity to hire a rucksack containing information that will help them explore the diverse nature on the reserve, including maps and identification sheets.
The second targets schools and larger groups and encourages them to visit the nature reserve for a day of outdoor learning.
Groups will be able to use a large teepee and take advantage of a variety of educational resources to help them make the most of their visit.
Both projects have been designed by the Murton Trust to encourage wider use of the site and a greater appreciation for nature, increasing opportunities for visitors to experience the benefits and enjoyment of spending time outdoors.
Visitors are invited to join staff and guests at Murton between 11am and 2pm on Friday.
They will be able to see the rucksacks, visit the teepee and discuss projects in more detail.
Mike Strachan, operations and development officer for Forestry Commission Scotland said “We are delighted to be able to support such an innovative project that promotes outdoor learning in a woodland environment.
“Murton Trust have impressed us with their ability to deliver projects on the ground, how they are engaged with the public and their skills training programme”
