Lily targets dance show after US trip for therapy

-

A 10-year-old Tayside girl sets off for America today, for her latest round of treatment in her fight against cancer.

Lily Douglas, from Perth, has Ewing’s sarcoma, an aggressive form of bone cancer which has seen her undergo surgery to remove a shoulder blade.

She has also undergone extensive treatment at the Edinburgh Sick Children’s Hospital but, despite the illness she has endured since being diagnosed 12 months ago, Lily has remained cheerful and has inspired those around her.

They include her mother, Jane, and her grandmother, Mary Douglas, who are both flying to the States with her.

Jane said: “We’re flying out from Edinburgh with Jacksonville in Florida being our destination.

“Lily will undergo proton therapy there for eight to 12 weeks.”

Proton therapy is a type of radiation treatment that uses protons to treat cancer.

Jane continued: “It’s the latest part of her treatment and, hopefully, it will be the last.

“The treatment Lily is getting isn’t around in Britain and we are able to go to America thanks to the funds raised for Lily.”

The youngster is a talented dancer and a much-valued member of the Fair City’s JGN Dance Attic.

They have a show at Perth Concert Hall on June 23 and Lily is targeting being back in time to take part in it.
