Abuse centre’s funding boost

-

The Women’s Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre is to receive £131,502 from Children in Need.

The money will be used to support its Dundee and Angus Young Survivors Project for 11 to 18-year-olds.

Over the next three years the Children in Need grant will help fund a young people’s support and trauma worker, as well as other staff, to enable a range of sessions that will improve the mental health and resilience of more than 200 young people affected by abuse.

Project manager Sinead Daly said: “Many of the highly vulnerable children and young people who come to our project are at their lowest point as a result of their experiences.

“We are so grateful for this latest grant from BBC Children in Need as it will help us provide them with the resources and time to help them make sense of what’s happened, so that they can confidently move forward with their lives. It’s a vital service that we’ll be able to provide for years to come.”

Florence Burke, national head of BBC Children in Need in Scotland, said: “We are delighted to fund the work of Women’s Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre Dundee and Angus, and we look forward to seeing the difference they make to the lives of children and young people across who need it most.

“BBC Children in Need is funding more projects than ever across Scotland, but competition for funds is still intense.”
