Stonehaven work prompts overnight road closures

-

Two overnight road closures will be in place on the B979 at Stonehaven this weekend.

The moves will enable surfacing works to be carried out on new roundabout, which will form part of the new Stonehaven junction, as part of the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route/balmedie to Tipperty project.

Transport Scotland said a section of the B979, between the new Ury Estate and the new A90 southbound slip road, would be closed between 10pm and 6am today and tomorrow.

The slip roads to and from the northbound A90 to the B979 will also be closed during these times and diversions will be signposted.

Access to the A90 via the new southbound slip road will be available from Stonehaven during the closures – however, motorists who want to access the A90 southbound from the B979 north of the closure should follow the diversion via the Bridge of Dee.

For safety reasons, there will be no access for pedestrians or cyclists through the closures – however, a free taxi service will be available to provide transfers to the other side of the affected section via the diversion.

All of the works are weather dependent and may be subject to change at short notice.

A further series of overnight closures will be required to carry out surfacing on the B979 to the south of the roundabout and begin installation of the permanent traffic signals.

A Transport Scotland spokesperson said: “The works planned for this weekend will enable the contractor to complete the surfacing of the new roundabout.

“The contractor has been working closely with Police Scotland and the local authorities to ensure anyone who needs to use this section of the B979 Netherley Road over this weekend and during the following overnight closures has an alternative available to them, while enhancing the safety of road users and road workers.

“Road users who would normally use this route at night should plan their journeys in advance.”
