Positive report card for Angus secondary school pupils
Councillors have praised the achievements of Angus secondary pupils following a positive report card.
Members of the children and learning committee in Forfar also acknowledged the support provided to pupils by staff and parents.
Montrose Independent councillor Mark Salmond said Angus pupils were continuing to make progress in attainment.
He said: “I’d like to express my admiration for the hard work of our young people, the support of their families and the dedication of school staff.”
Head of schools and learning Pauline Stephen said there have been improvements in attainment in the county’s secondaries.
“The improvements in raising attainment in Angus can be attributed to the leadership in our schools, improvements in learning and teaching, the systems used for monitoring and tracking young people’s progress, the considerable support from staff, parents and partners and the hard work of our young people,” she said.
Insight replaced Standard Tables and Charts (Stacs) as the national benchmarking tool for the senior phase. The tool focuses upon performance across four key national benchmarking measures.
The performance in literacy and numeracy in Angus continues to be better than national results.
Achievement at level five in 2017 was the highest over the last five years.
The gap in achievement between literacy and numeracy evident in previous years is narrowing.
Most young people also continue in either further or higher education on leaving school.
