Meffan to host RSW exhibition
The Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour (RSW) will return for the fourth time to the Meffan Museum and Art Gallery in Forfar this year with the RSW 7th Open Summer Exhibition.
The exhibition, from May 19 to June 29 and open to all watercolour artists in Scotland, is one of the key dates on the Scottish arts calendar and will show new works by some of Scotland’s leading artists alongside talented young artists from across the country.
The RSW is the only society in Scotland dedicated to promoting watercolour painting and staged its first public exhibition in 1879.
It has a distinguished history and many of Scotland’s most significant and well known painters have been among the membership, something that continues today.
It was granted royal status by Queen Victoria in 1888 and Prince Charles is currently patron of the society.
RSW resident Jim Dunbar said: “We’re delighted to have this opportunity to return to Forfar and hope the wide variety of subjects and styles of painting will mean there will be something for everyone to enjoy.”
Angus Alive Visual Arts Officer Gill Ross said: “It’s a privilege to host the RSW 7th Open Summer Exhibition at the Meffan Museum and Art Gallery this year and I’d encourage all artists working in a water-based medium to submit their paintings.”
