Chance Inn housing conversion handed £300,000 funding boost
Carling Property Group has launched its latest project – an affordable housing development in Angus.
The conversion of the former Chance Inn in the village of Inverkeilor includes six apartments, a communal courtyard and parking.
Called New Chance Inn Court, the development will also include detached and two semi-detached homes, to be built behind the apartments.
These are due for completion later this year.
Funding for the £900,000 project came partly from a £300,000 grant from the Scottish Government’s Rural Housing Fund, which aims to increase the supply of affordable housing in rural Scotland.
Dundee-based Carling Property Group (CPG), which already has inquiries from prospective tenants, has a track record of providing high-quality housing, mainly through building conversions.
CPG’S co-founder, Graeme Carling, said: “We’re extremely pleased with the first phase of New Chance Inn Court and look forward to completing the second phase.
“We’re grateful to the Rural Housing Fund for helping with this project.
“The fact that we’ve had such a strong amount of interest – through emails, phone calls and letters – proves that this development fills a need locally.”
Carling Property Group is run by Mr Carling and his wife Leanne.
The couple owns and manages over 350 rental properties all over Scotland, making it Scotland’s largest private residential landlord.
A strong advocate for affordable housing, Mr Carling has expressed concern about the “cottage industry” he says Britain’s private rental sector has become.
