Call to arms for next stage in planning for 2020 celebrations
Plans to mark the 700th anniversary of the Declaration of Arbroath will come under scrutiny at a public meeting in the town on May 14.
Organisers want to hear from people who may already be planning 2020 events, or have ideas for how to mark the milestone.
It follows an earlier session in March, where suggestions included a large-scale, open air musical performance, a specially-written play and a procession from Arbroath Abbey to the town’s harbour.
Chic Grant, acting chairman of Arbroath 2020, the charity set up to support and coordinate the programme, said the group wanted to hear from as many people in the town as possible.
Activities will start in April 2020 and come to a spectacular end in September.
“This latest meeting is another opportunity for individuals, groups and organisations to find out how to become involved in Arbroath’s 2020 celebrations and to share any ideas for projects and events which could take place during this historic year for Arbroath,” he said.
“We were delighted with the range and diversity of ideas suggested at the previous public meeting and with the large number of people who turned up.
“We would like to invite those who have attended our previous public meetings and may already be in the process of planning 2020 events, have an idea for a 2020 event or want to find out more about what will be happening in Arbroath during 2020 to come along.”
The meeting will be held at St Thomas of Canterbury Church Hall, Dishlandtown Street, starting at 7.30pm.
