Retail centre proposal for High Street site of former car wash
A large retail centre could be built on Monifieth High Street.
Informal discussions have taken place regarding the site at 40 High Street in the Angus town, which most recently housed the Prestige Car Wash.
Three retail units will be built at the site if the proposed development is given the green light.
Surveyors Eric Young and Co, based in Edinburgh, have listed the site on its website.
Described as having “excellent prominence,” the proposed development would comprise of three modern units arranged over a single floor.
Six car parking spaces and a loading bay would also be constructed at the front of the building, which sits across the road from the Post Office.
The units would extend to approximate net internal areas of 1,500 square feet; 1,250 sq ft and 1,250 sq ft, respectively.
Neighbouring properties include the Vita Dental Spa and houses in Wellbank Place.
A spokesman for Angus Council confirmed that the development had been discussed, but no formal application had been made to the local authority.
He said: “This site – where there was formerly a petrol filling station – is identified as an opportunity site in the Angus Local Development Plan which covers retail, business and commercial leisure uses, where compatible with activities in the surrounding area.
“Some informal discussions regarding the site have taken place, but no formal planning application has been received.”
Letting agents Graham and Sibbald, based in Greenmarket in Dundee, also has the proposed site listed on its website as “three modern units”.
