Projects bankrolled by three common good funds in Angus

Council: Eleven applicatio­ns totalling £345,000 nodded through without comment by committee

Common good fund money from three Angus burghs is to be used for improvemen­ts to civic amenities.

A £40,000 project to provide new toilets at Forfar Loch, repairs to Brechin City Hall and £30,000 of work to the Old Kirk steeple in Arbroath were among 11 applicatio­ns totalling £345,000 which were nodded through without comment by members of the council’s policy and resources committee when they met in Forfar.

In Brechin, four applicatio­ns were made by Angus Council to the tune of £120,000.

Angus Council’s infrastruc­ture is to receive £42,000 for window refurbishm­ent of the city hall.

This is additional funding on top of the base budget of £70,618 previously approved from the Brechin pot.

The local authority is to receive a further £38,000 for the city hall work, this time for upgrading work to internal lighting, rigging, flooring, boilers and LED lights.

The council will also receive £5,000 for external repair work and repainting

The Angus Alive Leisure Trust was successful in its bid for £10,000 funding

of the town house and museum, and £35,000 for the installati­on of vehicle access barriers at the public park.

The Arbroath common good fund is to finance £140,000 worth of projects.

Members agreed £30,000 requested by Angus Council Infrastruc­ture for repairs to the Old Kirk steeple. This is an additional funding request on top of a base budget of £37,750 previously approved from the Arbroath fund.

Funding totalling £40,000 is to go to the Arbroath Golf Links Management as a contributi­on towards the renewal of a sprinkler system at the golf course, made up of £20,000 funding and a £20,000 loan.

A request for £60,000 from Angus Council’s environmen­tal management, parks and gardens service was approved for the West Links crazy golf.

This represents 50% of the total cost of the renewal of the facilities.

The Angus Alive Leisure Trust was successful in its bid for £10,000 funding for the redevelopm­ent of two cottages at the Signal Tower Museum as part of the spotlight on Arbroath’s fishing heritage.

In Forfar, £85,000 is to go to council projects.

Work on the Municipal Buildings totalling £45,000 will be funded from the Forfar common good fund.

This will include widow refurbishm­ent and the installati­on of secondary glazing.

The sum of £40,000 was agreed for the provision of toilets for public use at a site adjacent to the rangers’ centre which will be maintained by Angus Alive staff.
