Kingennie springs into action with dry flies to fore

-

Although the weather was erratic at FORBES OF KINGENNIE, there has been signs of spring, resulting in more fly life and an increase in fish being taken on various patterns of dry flies.

On the Boathouse Pool the Abernethys returned a dozen fish.

Buzzers, diawl bachs and dries accounted for most of the fish but lures did take a few.

The Burnside Pool was moody but Scott Watson obviously had the correct formula as he returned 14 fish on catch and release.

Ed Valentine did well, releasing nine fish and Tam Costello returned two with one rainbow estimated at 10lb.

Most of the fish fell to buzzers (black or olive) or nymphs retrieved slowly.

Jock Leslie again dominated returns on the Bankside with his best session being 16 fish released.

Various dry fly patterns sorted out the better fish but buzzers and small lures also did well.

On the Woodside Pool, spinning enjoyed the best results but Powerbait fished beneath a float also did well.

CARLOGIE DAM has been seeing much better weather with dry flies becoming more popular.

Catch and returns included: G Edward (Forfar) eight, J Crerar (Arbroath) eight, J Thomson (Dundee) nine, J Duthie (Arbroath) 12, J Westland (Arbroath) 17, B Thomson (Arbroath) 20, B Thomson (Dundee) 13, C Cameron (Dundee) 14, R Swan (Dundee) six, W Clark (Forfar) six, J Hutton (Auchtermuchty) nine, B Beattie (Forfar) nine.

The average size in the last week has been over 3.5lb with tigers, browns, blues & rainbows up to 10lb all featuring in the catches.

Colin and Darren Shepherd returned a mixed catch of over 30 rainbows and browns on the boat.

Gordon Paterson has been getting double figures on most visits fishing the dries, including a stunning 3lb fully finned tiger trout.

MONIKIE is continiung to fish well.

This week saw 42 boats (69 rods) on the Island Pond keeping 249 fish for 474lb and 49 returned. On the North Pond 14 boats (21 rods) kept 24 fish for 60lb and returned six.

Buzzers, cormorants, damsels and crunches have been most successful fished on floating, intermediate and sink tip lines.

LAKE OF MENTEITH hosted heat two of the Scottish Club Championship on a settled night.
