solicitor call by man who killed wife

-

A wife-killer was brought into court in handcuffs yesterday and protested that he had been cut out of the decision-making process about the property of the spouse he murdered.

Ahmad Yazdanparast doused 46-year-old mother-of-three Ahdieh Khayatzadeh with petrol before setting fire to her in her hair salon in Stirling in 2013.

Yazdanparast, an Iranian kebab shop owner, acted because she’d had “the temerity” to divorce him and because he feared she was becoming “too Westernised”.

He was jailed for 19 years and in 2015 lost an appeal against his conviction.

He was also ordered to pay his three children £450,000 after they sued him for the loss of their mother.

He was brought out of prison to Stirling Sheriff Court yesterday after being named as second respondent in an action brought by the Royal Bank of Scotland over mortgage arrears for the former matrimonial home in Causewayhead, Stirling.

Audrey Mcghee, for the Royal Bank, asked for the case to be continued for 12 weeks to allow the bill to be settled.

Solicitor Ken Marsh, for Glara Yazdanparast, 25, as her mother’s executor, said: “The intention is that funding will hopefully come through, which will enable this action to be dismissed and the loan to be repaid.

“There is a joint motion from the first respondent (Glara) and the pursuers (the Royal Bank) to allow that to happen.”

But, in the dock, Yazdanparast, 65, demanded he be given a say.

He asked Sheriff Christopher Shead: “Could you please provide a solicitor for me in this court?”

Sheriff Shead replied: “No, I cannot do that. The court cannot, by itself, provide you with a solicitor.”

The case will return to court on August 7.
