Overnight traffic to go through Stonehaven for a fortnight

-

Traffic is to be diverted through Stonehaven during overnight closures for the new A90 southbound slip road in the latest stage of work on the Aberdeen western bypass project,

The new southbound slip, which carries traffic onto the A90 from the B979 Netherley Road will close overnight for around two weeks from Saturday as part of the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route/ Balmedie to Tipperty (AWPR/ B-T) scheme.

It is anticipated that the slip road will close from around 8pm each night and reopen by 6am the following morning to enable works on verges and street lighting to be undertaken.

Diversions will be sign-posted and road users should travel via the B979 David Street, Allardice Street and then the A957 Bridgefield, Dunnottar Avenue up to Glasslaw junction on to A92, which is known locally as the coast road, before joining the southbound A90.

Access to and from the northbound A90 from Stonehaven and the B979 Netherley Road is unaffected.

A Transport Scotland spokesperson said:“the new slip road on to the A90 at Stonehaven is one of the sections built as part of the project which was opened in advance of the new trunk road and has significantly reduced the level of traffic going through the town, particularly at busy times.

“The contractor has arranged these closures to take place overnight to ensure traffic diverted through Stonehaven is kept to a minimum.

“We request drivers to observe signage and speed limits in place to enhance the safety of pedestrians, road users and road workers.”
