Town to say farewell to Glennis

-

The funeral of former Forfar Councillor Glennis Middleton is to take place in the town on Monday.

Council colleagues local people were shocked by the sudden death of Mrs Middleton last week after she suffered a heart attack.

She represented Forfar as an SNP councillor from the formation of Angus Council in its 1994 shadow year until last year’s local elections.

She was renowned as a dedicated local member and also a champion of the area’s most vulnerable citizens.

Glennis served as convener of the authority’s social work and health committee on the former SNP administration, was a leading figure on Tayside Criminal Justice Authority and the first chair of the area’s Integrated Joint Board.

Angus Provost Ronnie Proctor led tributes to Mrs Middleton at a full council meeting the day after the 67-year-old’s passing, describing her as a “firstclass councillor who worked tirelessly for her constituents and the people of Angus”.

Forfar’s Reid Hall will host the funeral service for Mrs Middleton at 2.30pm on Monday and thereafter to Forfar Cemetery at 3.30pm.

Mourners have also been invited to Forfar Legion from 4pm.

Mrs Middleton is survived by her husband Bill, a former Provost of Angus, daughter Alison and stepchildren Paula and William.
