Sunshine and smiles were the order of the day at Perth Racecourse yesterday.

A highlight of Perthshire’s social calender, thousands of attendees wowed in an array of brightly coloured dresses and hats for Ladies Day – topped off by the beautiful weather.

Ladies Day supported Breast Cancer Now and saw dance duo Lovely Laura and DJ Ben Santiago perform on the main stage after the final race.

Prior to that, Scottish band Carbon Copy took to the stage in the sold-out VIP area.

Hazel Peplinski, chief executive of Perth Racecourse, said: “The glorious weather we have all been savouring provided the perfect backdrop to a spectacular Totepool Ladies Day. It was fantastic to see such a big crowd enjoying themselves, not only our bumper eightrace card but also all the glitz, glamour and entertainment which comes with the event.

“We congratulate all our best dressed winners who picked up some big prizes on the day and we thank the many thousands of race-goers for creating such a superb Perth Racecourse atmosphere throughout the afternoon.”

We endured a winter to forget, with the beast from the east a particular low point. However, the sun has been shining in spectacular style in recent days with those attending the annual Ladies Day extravaganza at Perth Racecourse among those to benefit yesterday.

After a series of summers to forget could we at last be in line for the kind of sizzling summer so often promised, but all too rarely delivered?
