Scottish cross-country champion Kris Jones shone in the sunlight at Dalmunzie Estate in winning the Glas Tulaichean Uphill Race in record time.

The Welsh internatio­nalist shaved 22 seconds from the 21-year old course record to cover the 670m ascent in a superb 33 minutes 28 seconds. Ally Beaven (Highland Hill Runners) and over-40 veteran Brian Bonnyman (Westerland­s) followed in second and third. Chantel Clark (Dundee & Angus Cani-cross) was first lady to the top in 50 minutes 41 seconds, with Ella Peters (Glasgow Caledonian University) second and Hilary Ritchie (Fife AC) third.

Kenyan Joel Kipkemboi Kiptoo won the Edinburgh marathon in a new course record of two hours, 13 minutes and 33 seconds.

He smashed the previous record – set by Kenyan Zachary Kihara in 2005 – by almost two minutes. American Jeffrey Stein was second in 2:21.21 seconds, followed by Corstorphi­ne’s Michael Crawley in 2:24:43. The women’s race was dominated by Caroline Jepchirchi­r, who lead from the front with a time of 2 hours, 47 minutes and 35 seconds. The podium was completed by Edinburgh’s Shona Mcintosh in 2:49.07 and Tracy Millmore from Stanley in 2:52.14. Fife AC’S Sheena Logan was seventh female in 2:58.20, while club colleague Annabel Simpson made her half-marathon debut with a 34th overall/second female finish in 76 minutes and 28 seconds.

Perth Strathtay Harrier Sol Sweeney posted a new personal best over 1,500m in winning the ‘B’ race at the Watford British Milers Club Meeting in three minutes 45.22 seconds to go sixth in the Scottish rankings. Club colleague Ben Greenwood won the 800m ‘B’ race in 1:49.05 – fourth in the 2018 Scottish rankings. Pitreavie’s Ben Potrykus was 15th in the 1,500m ‘B’ race in 4:00.51.

Mo Farah claimed victory at the Vitality London 10,000, winning the British 10km road title in the capital. Contesting his second 10km race in nine days after his victory at the Simplyheal­th Great Manchester Run, 10-time global track gold medallist Farah clocked 29:44 to finish ahead of Aldershot, Farnham & District duathlete Richard Allen and former triathlete Matthew Sharp.

Scot Callum Hawkins – racing for the first time since his collapse in the Commonweal­th Games marathon on the Gold Coast – finished 42nd.

It was a busy weekend for Fife AC Paralympia­n Derek Rae. Having helped Fife to team victory at the Kinghorn Black Rock Race, the Kirkcaldy athlete finished eighth in the Westminste­r Mile less than 24 hours later in four minutes and 42 seconds.

Rae followed up with 107th place in the 10,000, clocking 32.50. Scottish internatio­nalist Steph Twell won the women’s race, clocking 32:34 to secure success ahead of Gemma Steel 33.00 and Jo Pavey 33.12. Former Hawkhill athlete Lily Partridge was fifth in 33.27.

GB junior internatio­nalist Declan Gall was the outstandin­g competitor for the Kingdom Athletics team at the National Junior League Premier North match at Liverpool. Under-20 athlete Gall won the 400m in 48.82 seconds.

The final race of the day the men’s 4x400m relay saw Gall anchor Kingdom to victory in 3:24.40, aided by Craig Moriarty, Josh Spence and Euan Boyle.

For the women Jade Hutchison won the under-20 200m in 24.76 as well as placing secind in the 100m in 12.37. Team results: 1 Kingdom Athletic 721, 2 Team Edinburgh 700, 3 Team Glasgow 692, 4 Team Forth Valley.
