Treat in store for classical music lovers at Ruthven extravaganza

-

The gardens, wild flowers and rhododendrons are bursting into colour around the hamlet of Ruthven – just in time for the community hall to host its annual music festival.

The line-up this year will feature concerts on June 8 and June 10.

The gathering attracts classical music performers and fans from around Scotland and has a reputation for matching first-class musicians and top performers with an acoustically perfect venue.

Evelyn Hood, of the Ruthven Music Festival committee, said concert-goers were in for a treat.

“This is our 29th year of the festival and our concerts continue to delight our audiences,” she said.

“This year, as well as the Ruthven Festival Players, under the direction of leader Audrey Mattner and conductors Howard Duthie and Allan Young, we also have four excellent guest artistes.”

Colleen Nicoll, a soprano from Dunkeld, and Ayrshire tenor David Douglas will perform on the evening of Friday June 8. The theme of the concert will be Airs And Graces, with music by Handel, Rameau, Monteverdi and Bach.

The afternoon concert on Sunday June 10 will feature a programme of guitar and orchestra classics, old and new, from Mike and Michael Mcgeary.

Tickets are £20 for each concert, which includes a Friday wine reception and buffet/sunday wine reception and afternoon tea with strawberries and cream.

Under-12s will be admitted free of charge.
