Sentences deferred on two domestic abuse cases

-

An Angus man pled guilty to assaulting his ex-partner when he appeared at Forfar Sheriff Court.

Stephen Thomson, 44, of Caledonian Place, Montrose, admitted grabbing her and pulling a necklace and clothing she was wearing at Dorward Gardens, Montrose, on April 20, while on bail.

The court heard Thomson had previous convictions and this was his second domestic abuse charge in a short period of time.

He was ordered not to approach or contact his ex-partner and was released on bail.

Sentence was deferred until June 28 for preparation of criminal justice and social work report and a restriction of liberty assessment.

Also at Forfar: Alan Forrest, 55, of Bridge Street, Arbroath, admitted assaulting his ex-partner. Depute fiscal Jill Drummond told the court the accused and the complainer had been in a relationship for three years before the attack, which happened in his kitchen on the evening of May 23 this year.

She asked him to stop swearing and he rushed at her “with his arms everywhere”.

He was shouting and swearing at her and was “very aggressive”.

An agent for Forrest, who appeared from custody, told the court his client was 55 and an offshore electronics technician.

He said: “His relationship with the complainer had been going in decline for the last few months. He accepts his behaviour is totally inappropriate. Things came to a head on this particular day.”

Sentence was deferred for six months for Forrest to prove he can be of good behaviour.
