Glamis Castle welcomed a special visitor when Matt Baker of the BBC’S Countryfil­e programme dropped in to film a report.

He met Mary, Dowager Countess of Strathmore, and castle general manager Tommy Baxter during filming for a programme celebratin­g 65 years since the Queen’s coronation.

Matt visited the family home of Elizabeth Bowes-lyon, the Queen Mother.

The castle was also the birthplace of Princess Margaret.

During the programme, Ellie Harrison will be exploring the woodland on the Balmoral Estate and seeing how conservati­on projects introduced by the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh are encouragin­g wildlife.

Anita Rani will be on the Western Isles, where the royal family enjoyed holidays on board the royal yacht Britannia and Adam Henson will also be on the Balmoral Estate meeting the stockman who looks after the Queen’s herd of Highland cattle and checking out one of her favourite bulls.

He also catches up with the head of the Balmoral stud to see how the Queen is preserving the bloodline of the estate’s Highland ponies.

Matt will also visit one of the bothies on the estate and hear about the royal family’s taste for dining outdoors.

The programme is due to be broadcast on BBC1 at 7pm on Sunday.
