Rotary club to host Father’s Day fun run and bike ride for charity

-

Kirriemuir Rotary Club is gearing up for a family fun cycle ride and 10k fun run in the grounds of Glamis Castle this month.

The club is joining others across the country in highlighting awareness of prostate cancer and raising funds to help research and treatment.

One in 11 men are likely to develop prostate cancer during their lives and Rotarians will begin their awareness campaign this week by challenging locals to see how far they can travel on static bikes set up in the town.

On Sunday June 17, the main cycle fun event and run will incorporate picnics, other voluntary organisations promoting their work, refreshments and a two-mile track around the tarmac and gravel roads and off-road tracks of the Strathmore estate, going through the famous arboretum and around the walled gardens.

The castle has made entry to the grounds free to the public on the day.

Keith Hopkins of Kirriemuir Rotary Club said: “When we last did this we had over 200 cyclists attend.

“This time we have incorporated a 10k fun run as we know there are plenty of people who will enjoy running the route just over three times to cover that distance.”

Fun run registration is from 9am for a 10am start and the family bike run gets under way at 11.30am until 4pm.

Club president Bill Milne said: “We felt that Father’s Day weekend was a great time for people to spend quality time together while raising money and awareness for charity.”
