KIRRIEMUIR. President Chris Horrocks welcomed members to the annual general meeting. Prizewinners: institute competitions – 1 Charlotte Brown (Mrs Orr Posy Bowl), 2 Chris Horrocks (Manitona Salver); flower of the month – 1 Anne Morrall (Silver Bud Vase), 2 Charlotte Brown (Silver Dish); bulbs competition – Charlotte Brown (Mrs Kidd Salver); housewives (flowers) at Federation Show – Ivy Ray (Mrs Nicoll Cup). May competitions: favourite cup and saucer – 1 Charlotte Brown, 2 Ivy Ray, 3 Ruth Fraser and Linda Wells; flower of the month – 1 Chris Horrocks, 2 Charlotte Brown, 3 Anne Morrall. Chris Horrocks gave a talk on her trip to the Galapagos Islands.
MEMUS and FERN. Elsie Nicoll opened the business meeting. New committee: Beth Laird, Davina Farquharson, Jane Buttersworth, Alice Carle, May Donnelly, Kathleen Melville, Rosemary Mckenzie, Marie Carle. Trophy winners: Ella Grant, Elsie Nicoll and Kathleen Melville. Ella Grant demonstrated embroidery.
FETTERCAIRN. Helen Ritchie presided at the annual meeting. Kathleen Masson showed how to make supper dishes, assisted by Rhona Keith. Trophy winners: Alison Cup – Sheena Kelly; Grace Kerr Shield – Morag Christie; Milne Trophy – Bea Easson; Anderson Cup – Irene Robertson. Competitions: flower of month – 1 Nancy Brown, 2 Chris Milne, 3 Fiona Milton; syllabus for the year – 1 Chris Milne, 2 Irene Robertson, 3 Bea Easson; floral egg cup display – 1 Sheena Kelly, 2 Irene Robertson, 3 May Allan.
MONIKIE and NEWBIGGING. President Louise Johnston opened the meeting. Prizewinners: Rosebowl – 1 Morag Whyte, 2 Ellen Millar; Fairlie Salver – 1 Morag Whyte, 2 Ellen Millar; Marnoch Trophy – Moira Bowman and Margaret Riddick (joint first). The evening finished with an auction and a quiz. Competitions: traybake – 1 Margaret Riddick, 2 Thora Ogg, 3 Gillian Millar; flower of the month – Ellen Millar.
FOWLIS and LIFF. President Angela Wood welcomed members and tellers from Lundie WRI to the annual meeting. Office-bearers: president – Phyllis Lyske; committee – Muriel Douglas, Barbara Greig, Freda Knox, Mary Skinner, June Smart, Sue Webster. Trophy winners: Handicraft Cup – Alison Scott, runner-up – Freda Knox; Produce Cup – Angela Wood, runner-up – June Lawson and Freda Knox (equal).
ST CYRUS. President Elizabeth Alexander welcomed members to the annual meeting. Tellers: Joan Murray and Eleanor Ritchie. New committee: president Kathleen Masson, vice-president Elizabeth Alexander, secretary Frances Moir, treasurer Rhona Keith. A quiz was set by Val Fotheringham and Kath Scott hosted a bingo session. Competitions: decorative soap dish – 1 M Hadden, 2 E Alexander, 3 W Armitage; ideas for next year’s syllabus – 1 W Armitage, 2 C Jamieson, 3 M Brown; flower of the month – 1 M Hadden, 2 M Brown, 3 M Taylor. Mary Taylor won the Jubilee Cup for most points overall, the quaich for her flowers and the lucky bingo prize. The outing was to the Gordon Highlanders Museum in Aberdeen followed by a meal at Drum Garden Centre.
