RBS pulp flyers due to timetable mistakes

-

Red-faced RBS bosses have been forced to tear up hundreds of leaflets advertising new mobile banking services after campaigners pointed out a series of “confusing” typos.

The flyers were distributed to communities across Perthshire after controversial cutbacks.

The timetable shake-up affects areas which are still reeling from local branch closures announced in December.

But locals said mistakes suggested some mobile banks would be available for 12-and-a-half hours (from “11.30am to 12.30am”), while other times printed didn’t even exist on the 24 hour clock (“14.45am”).

An RBS spokesman has apologised to customers for the error. He said the leaflets had been recalled and a new batch had been printed.

Perth and North Perthshire MP Pete Wishart said the leaflets had the potential to cause confusion. He said: “While this is clearly a genuine mistake, I think that this is disrespectful to communities which already feel like they are being abandoned by the bank.

“I am sure that most people could probably deduce when these visits will actually take place.

“But we really do not need any further confusion about which RBS services will be open and when.”

The mistakes were flagged up by councillor Mike Williamson.

The SNP representative said: “RBS plan to close two branches in my ward alone.

“To say I was angry when I saw these confusing leaflets is an understatement.”
