Local groups urged to launch cash appeals from crowdfunding
Angus groups have been encouraged to push for crowdfunding cash to build on a programme which has helped pump hundreds of thousands of pounds into local projects.
In the year to March, a total of 32 campaigns appeared on Crowdfund Angus, raising a total of £110,872.
In all, 21 of those campaigns were eligible for match funding from the Angus community grant scheme and received a combined £24,250.
The overall total raised since the launch of Crowdfund Angus in 2015 is £190,958.
Angus-based, non-profit groups, charities and local group partnerships can make use of Crowdfund Angus to get others to support their projects. They can also apply for up to £1,250 match finding from the community grant scheme.
The Crowdfund Angus partnership between the authority and Crowdfunder UK was launched with four pilot projects, including Forfar Area Network’s successful scheme to bring back the town’s gala week.
Angus economic development spokesman, Montrose Conservative councillor Ron Sturrock said: “It’s been marvellous to see funding awarded to a wide range of projects.
“They have included the development of local community sports and arts facilities and events, as well as increasing the amount of lifesaving defibrillators within Angus. Crowdfund Angus is worth far more than money alone. It raises awareness of the great work and community spirit of the groups and individuals involved, as well as allowing their projects to hit the ground running.”
Council leader, Brechin and Edzell independent Bob Myles said: “By using Crowdfund Angus our projects remain open to the ‘extra funding’ that Crowdfunder UK has available for project ideas that are designed to help communities, support wellbeing, work towards a better environment, reward innovation or support businesses.”
He said the crowdfunding approach had also paid dividends for festive lights in Arbroath, Carnoustie, Forfar and Kirriemuir.
