Brexit talks on table as minister tours Spink’s smokehouse
David Mundell, the Secretary of State for Scotland, will be in Angus today as part of a visit to the north-east.
He will visit the Arbroath smokehouse of RR Spink & Sons to discuss the opportunities for the sector brought by Brexit.
For 300 years, generation upon generation of passionate fishermen and women have worked in tune with the sea, catching and preparing the finest RR Spink & Sons smoked fish.
They’ve drawn inspiration from Scotland’s Highland streams and lochs, using native woods and traditional methods to create a delicious range of smoked trout and smoked salmon.
After the tour of the Spink’s smokehouse he will travel to Dundee to meet representatives of Dundee and Abertay universities to hear details of bids being made as part of the Tay Cities Deal. These projects would boost Dundee’s strengths in biomedical sciences, forensic science and cybersecurity.
He will then visit Tayside Aviation, another potential partner in the Tay Cities Deal.
Speaking ahead of his visit, Mr Mundell said: “I will be taking the opportunity of visiting RR Spink today to discuss with them the challenges and opportunities of EU exit for their business – as well as sampling their delicious hot and cold smoked trout and salmon.
“We are making good progress on the Tay Cities City Region Deal, which has the potential to transform the region’s economy, boosting growth, creating jobs and increasing prosperity.
“I look forward to discussing the details further with partners today.”
