“Through your column I hope to make contact with the descendant­s of my three times great-grandfathe­r Duncan Menzies, son of Robert Menzies and Isabel Boyd, who was born in 1794 and married Christian Forbes,” emails Dennis Menzies, from New Zealand. “I would like to find descendant­s of their children, Robert, born 1828 and possibly died in Michigan, USA, Christian, born 1830, and Isabel born 1832.

“Also, those of Duncan’s siblings – Alexander 1796, Janet 1798, Catherine 1800, Robert 1802, Isabel 1804, Grizel (Grace) 1806, Margaret 1809, James 1812, John 1815 and Archibald 1819.

“Grizel married Robert Stewart on May 14 1831 at Dull, Perthshire. Robert died in Perth on December 27 1888. He was married to Margaret Morrison and his occupation is given as coal merchant.

“Robert and Margaret had children – Isabella, May 1 1833; Robert, May 1 1835 and Catherine, May 15 1842.

“Margaret died on October 13 1895 in Perth. She married Alexander Murray, November 6 1829 at Weem, Perthshire. James Menzies died on March 21 1863, at Old Ship Lane in Perth. He was married to Janet Mcleish and he was an innkeeper. John Menzies died on June 18 1893, 51 Main Street, Perth. He was married to Janet Mcnab and was also an innkeeper.

“I’d love to hear from any descendant­s for an exchange of informatio­n.” Dennis adds that he and his wife are planning to visit Scotland in the next two years. “My family originated in the Aberfeldy area and Perth will be high on our list of places to visit,” he says.
