Sunny weather mean mornings best at Lairds

RESCOBIE LOCH had a big delivery of 1,000 rainbows from Welham Park this week.

Averaging 2lb, they are starting to be caught all around the loch now both on the bank and by boat anglers alike.

Blairgowri­e and Rattray AC visited with eight rods and took 31 fish for 36lb 2oz; Anstruther AC’S 14 rods took 31 fish for 68lb 8oz.

Full four-fish bags were taken by Ross Smith, 13lb; Alex Brewster, 11lb 12oz; Alan Wood, 11lb 4oz and 10lb 4oz; Bob Buick, 10lb 12oz.

Don Paton had a nice brownie at 5lb 4oz on Saturday evening and is on the board for the top weight of the month so far.

FRANDY FISHERY continues to provide excellent sport.

Amongst the individual catches from the bank Gerry Grattan from Kincardine kept two fish for 5lb and released a further two; Mark Paterson (Stirling) caught and released eight; Andy Hunter (Alloa) caught and released six and Bobby Paterson from Stirling caught and released four. Jim Donnelly from Tullibody had two for 4lb and released 15; Raymond Pirrie (Tullibody) caught and released six; Davie Hunter (Alloa) caught and released five.

The angling clubs were out in force with Perthshire F/C keeping 10 fish for 22lb 12oz; Pentland Civil Service AC ,33 fish, 68lb 4oz and released a further 1.

The Kenny Macmillan Trophy outing kept 12 fish for 25lb 3oz. This year’s winner was Dan Martelat from Bridge of Earn with 2 for 5lb 2oz.

CIBA A/C kept 17 fish weighing 35lb 10oz and released 13, Rainbow A/C 30 fish for 71lb and released 22, Harbour Light Fly Fishers kept 33 fish weighing 67lb 4oz the heaviest 4lb and Perth Ex-servicemen’s A/C had 3 fish weighing 6lb 8oz. Kelty Artisan kept 6 fish weighing 14lb 6oz, Leslie & Glenrothes A/C 17 fish for 34lb 2oz and returned a further 19 and Rannoch & District A/C kept 7 fish weighing 14lb 1oz.

The top catching flies included the Catbug, Sedge Muddler, Kate Mclaren, Cormorant, Okey Dokey, and Buzzers.

It’s been a week of dry fly techniques at NEWTON FARM FISHERY with some excellent surface activity and rises.

500 fish have been stocked in the past 5 weeks so the place is full of trout up to 15lb.

Top rod this week was Darren Barcik on 23. Most came to sedgehoggs.

Mornings have been best at LEDCRIEFFE and LAIRDS LOCHS until clouds burn off with buzzers and hot head damsels most regularly caught.

Notable catches for the last week include Colin & Darren Shepherd returned 15 fishing buzzers and Glasgow Kelvin College AC 15 rainbows averaging 4lb. Lairds loch was stocked again last week so catches have been steady there with powerbait and maggot fished deep taking plenty fish.

FNF Falcons finished top in the Anglian Water Day finals (Change and Leven Fly Casters also qualified) while Tartan Tyers and Neilston qualified from the evening event.

In the Scottish Club Championsh­ips, Grizzlecat­s B were the top club with 18 fish with Kilmarnock and Buckshead finishing 2nd and 3rd. In the Fario Fly Boat League Gil Farid was top rod fishing deep in the cages. Brian Mackenzie leads the league.
