Tributes after police formally name Fife boy killed in taxi crash

Cowdenbeat­h: Family speak of ‘caring, fun-loving son, grandson and brother’ following late-night tragedy

The devastated family of a Fife teenager who died after being struck by a taxi have paid tribute to the “caring, funloving son, grandson and brother”.

They spoke out after police formally named the dead boy as James Morrison.

He suffered serious injuries following the collision with a taxi on Saturday at around 11.45pm.

Emergency services raced to the scene on the B925 near Crossgates but the youngster was tragic ally pronounced dead a short time later.

A police appeal was launched to try to identify the Cowdenbeat­h teen who was not carrying any form of identifica­tion.

Worried friends and family issued their own plea for informatio­n about James’ whereabout­s after he failed to arrive home from a party.

The heartbreak­ing connection between the two was discovered on Sunday afternoon and confirmed by devastated relatives on social media.

his “cheeky smile” would have turned 16 today.

His family have now issued heartfelt tributes to James, who has been formally named by Police Scotland.

A statement read: “James was a caring, fun-loving son, grandson and brother who would do anything for anybody. He will be truly missed by his family and friends.

“The family wish to express their thanks for the messages they have received and they wish to be left to come to terms with their loss.”

His sister added: “James was a wee radge and my wee best pal from birth. A bond that can’t be broken. I will love and miss him every day.”

The driver and passengers of the Renault Trafic MPV taxi that was involved in the accident were uninjured.

The road was closed for around six hours for examinatio­ns and inquiries into the collision are ongoing

Inspector Brenda Sinclair from Fife’s Road Policing Unit said: “Our thoughts and sympathies are with the family of James Morrison at this time and we are continuing with our investigat­ion to establish exactly what has happened.

“I would urge any motorists or members of the public who were in the area of the B925 on Saturday evening and witnessed the collision to contact police immediatel­y if they have not already done so.”
