Arbroath women to stand trial over alleged assaults in hotel

Two Angus women appeared at Forfar Sheriff Court yesterday in connection with a series of alleged assaults in an Arbroath hotel.

Deborah Williamson, 32, of Priory Crescent, and Vicki Williamson, 30, of Newbigging Drive, both Arbroath, pled not guilty to the charges.

They are all alleged to have taken place on December 9 2016 at the Cliffburn Hotel, Arbroath.

Deborah Williamson is charged with assaulting Debbie Thomson, by striking her on the head, throwing a plastic bottle at her head and seizing her by the hair. She is also accused of pulling her to the ground, repeatedly hitting her on the body and pulling her hair.

Both are accused of assaulting Diane Thomson by grabbing her by the hair, pulling her to the ground and repeatedly pulling her hair.

They are also alleged to have assaulted Gary Ferguson by hitting him on the head with a bottle, seizing him by the body and repeatedly punching and kicking him on his head.

The final charge alleges that Deborah Williamson assaulted Rhianne Ferguson by repeatedly kicking and punching her on the body, rendering her unconsciou­s.

Both pled not guilty to all charges. A trial date was fixed for June 22 and both were released on bail.

Also at Forfar: A warrant was issued for the arrest of Stephen Mellor, 37, of Gagie Castle, Gagiewell Estates, Kellas.

He failed to appear in court to face charges of sending offensive text messages to Stewart Melville, repeatedly phoning him, shouting and swearing down the phone, demanding money and threatenin­g him with violence.
